Thanks to Abby Dixon, one of resident experts for some tips for your next trail adventure!
Power hike the hills, it’s a nice time to hydrate and have nutrition as you’re not bouncing around
Even the elite trail runners power hike hills – running up a gradient >15 degrees becomes inefficient (especially if it’s rocky)
Be mindful of your breathing, make sure you’re not holding your breath going downhill, it will give you a stitch
Downhill doesn’t = one foot in front of the other.. sometimes it’s side stepping, sometimes it’s galloping.. try to have fun with your feet, make it playful.. it takes practise
Your torso should move a little with running, imagine there’s a torch on your breast bone, 12o clock is dead ahead – the torch should shine between 11 & 1
Some runners get quite rigid (especially when tired), if you feel this is you, take a big breath and try shake it off
Some runners move too much ie torch shines from 10-2.. this is almost always because the legs aren’t strong enough…
That’s for another post
